In the open air at Coulsdon Manor Hotel

‘All the world’s a stage…’

Rosalind’s father, the rightful duke, has been exiled by his usurping brother. The vulnerable and impulsive Rosalind falls in love with Orlando - a youngest son down on his luck. But her uncle, jealous of her popularity, banishes her. Disguised as a boy, Rosalind flees the tyrant’s court, seeking her freedom in the idyllic Forest of Arden. But Orlando too is in the forest, and in her guise as a young rake, Rosalind embarks on a beguiling game of love, lust, and tangled identities. A joyous celebration of the liberating power of love and the healing force of nature, Shakespeare's sparkling comedy has everything from cross-dressing, gorgeous poetry and brilliant conversation, to passion, slapstick and pure, unadulterated fun.

Audience seating is on grass. For comfort, playgoers are advised to bring a rug, cushion, or garden chair. Do please also bring plenty of warm clothing for later in the evening. It can get cold - even in August. To check on whether it is advisable to bring shower-proof clothing, you can check the local forecast for the Coulsdon area through the Weather Channel web site.

The play takes place in licensed premises by kind permission of Bespoke Hotels. Out of consideration to our hosts, patrons are respectfully asked not to bring their own food or drink for consumption on the premises.

For those arriving by car, there is a large car park and if you wish to use SatNav, the full address is Coulsdon Manor Hotel, Coulsdon Court Road, Coulsdon, CR5 2LL.

With effect from June, and running all the way through until September, there will be major road works at junction of Brighton Road and Old Lodge Lane, adjacent to Purley Fire Station.

This will result in the total closure of Old Lodge Lane at that point, and road users will not be able to access Old Lodge Lane or Hartley Down from there.

People travelling by car towards the Coulsdon Manor Hotel from Croydon or Purley and who normally use this route are advised to continue along the Brighton Road towards Coulsdon and use Stoats Nest Road instead.

For those on foot, the Hotel is just a couple of minutes walk from Coulsdon Road (B2030) and a regular 466 bus service. The 404 bus also passes by on an hourly basis. The nearest railway stations are Reedham, Smitham and Coulsdon South, but it's a fair walk on stout legs from all of them.
