Theatre Workshop Coulsdon - Member Biography

Rosie Martin

Rosie Martin

Rosie joined TWC at its inception (transferring her membership from CYTO when it operated out of two centres Coulsdon & Croydon). Her first recorded appearance in a TWC production was as Mrs Eynsford-Hill's Daughter in Pygmalion in 1970 and appeared in many shows up until about 1976/77 when she took time out to act with other drama companies. An occasional invite brought her back to act in The Gunslinger 1981 and Lark Rise in 1994. She returned to the group in 1997 (the pull was so strong) and has been involved in many productions since then.

Her first directing role was with After the Rain in 1973, Caretaker director for the Hobbit in 1976 and Co-Director for The Dracula Spectacula Show in 1977. She remembers the group being shown warm-up exercises by Art Malik when rehearsing for early experimental shows in the shutter suite. Her husband Alex is involved in front of house and her 2 daughters Lucy-Ann & Philippa have been brought up with TWC and are now active members in their own right.

Favourite part (early days) Tania in Macrune's Guevara. Best play to be a part of (early days) was The Sea.

Favourite shows to be in now would be the open air productions at The Woodman in the summer. Can't wait 'til the next one!
